Stephen Reid of Elan Design Ltd will climb Ben Nevis on Sunday carrying a toilet pan.  He is doing this to raise money for his 26 year old sister who desperatly needs a new wheelchair.

Nicola Reid suffers from a rare bone disease called hypophosphatemia which has confined her to a wheelchair since her teens.   This chair has been wearing out and a new one is needed to maintian her quality of life.

Stephen, who is a kitchen and bathroom fitter to trade, will be carrying the 45lbs toilet from sea level to over 1,300 meters where he hopes to have his picture taken sitting on it reading a newspaper.

He will be supported in his venture by Paisley RFC Second Row and old school friend Ron Kane and family friend Kirsten Heggie.  All three will set off from the Corrie Duff Guest House in Glen Nevis at 7am and expect to be on the hill for most of the day.

"The downward leg is going to be the most difficult" Stephen acknowledges, "constantly dropping onto my knees with this weight on my back may cause me problems but I will be using walking poles and I hope that will offset some of the stress.  Ron told me the weight was the same as I used to carry during Army basic training, but that was a long time ago!"

Anyone wishing to donate to Nicola Reid's Wheelchair fund can do so by following the link at the bottom using PayPal.
