Paisley 10 - 38 Strathclyde Police PDF Print E-mail

Paisley Rugby's 1st Team lost for the first time this season on Saturday. The Paisley side was depleted due to prior commitments, injuries and a few late call offs. Although this is no excuse for what was the poorest performance by Paisley this season so far.

Paisley played poorly but that cant take away from a Police side who dominated this game from the start. The evidence from this game is that whoever wants to win this group will find it tough to match a well organised Strathclyde Police team although who knows what will happen over the course of a season.

The Police started strongly with Paisley showing a lack of conviction throughout the team especially around the breakdown. By half time the Police were winning 24-3. A lack of discipline and a litany of basic errors hampered Paisley in the second half. The frustration of the Paisley team was evident for all to see. Strathclyde Police scored two more tries in the second half before a massed brawl erupted in the aftermath of a Police try. The referee took action as he saw fit by giving the Paisley No 8 a harsh red card, when there were several others who probably deserved to be brought to book also who went unpunished. This just about summed up a frustrating day for the home team.

In the last few minutes Paisley Prop Gary McNaught barged through several tackles to score, standoff Newlands converted and the game finished 38 - 10 to the Police. A scoreline which in fairness could have been alot worse for Paisley had some of the Police backs shown a bit more composure.

The Paisley team is capable of far more than they have shown this season. Alot of hard work is needed by the entire playing squad with training an essential part of this. The individual players have still not gelled as a team and a big effort is required by all to turn things around

Next up are local rivals Bishopton away. A game which is always a tough fixture. Hopefully with this being a relatively local fixture Paisley will take a good crowd along. The performance will need to be raised a good few levels for this game. Kickoff is at 3:00pm
