Paisley Win Away at Bishopton PDF Print E-mail
Paisley made a short trip to Bishopton for their fourth game of the season. After the disappointment of the performance against the Strathclyde Police last week, this derby game was even more important than normal.

The first half was a fairly evenly matched affair with both teams making errors whenever they got close to the oppositions 22. Bishopton were probably unluckiest as they once knocked the ball on crossing the try line and also had an excellent driving maul held up over the line.

Paisley also threatened the Bishopton line several times although a large part of the game was dominated by the two standoffs with positional kicks. At half time the score was level at 0 - 0, both teams having missed any penalty chances that they had

Paisley started the brighter in the second half as the bigger Bishopton pack tired. This meant that a more ball was available to the Paisley backs who had the measure of the Bishopton line up out wide. The break through eventually came with a break in the centers by captain David Dodd who shrugged of a couple of tackles in midfield and raced in from 40m. The try being converted by Gavin Newlands.

Almost immediately Bishopton came back into the game with a well executed catch and drive from a 5m lineout. Their standoff converted to tie the scores at 7 - 7. Paisley had the better of the midfield exchanges at this point of the match and when the Paisley back line combined to put David Dodd through in the center again, young winger Martin Holeman was on his shoulder to take a pop pass and finish well under the posts.

Paisley started to put on more pressure at this point and were driving up field when replacement full back Callum Walker was tackled into touch, breaking three ribs and the game was pulled up to allow treatment. With a few minutes left the game was virtually over and the whistle was blown at the next breakdown in play

With three wins out of four games things are looking good for Paisley this season. The team has still to gel properly, biut the signs of improvement are becoming apparent. Next week Paisley take on Shawlands at Anchor in what will be another tough encounter. Shawlands are sitting second after beating league leaders Strathclyde Police last weekend.

All players are requested to be at training this week and to let the coaching know of their availability at the earliest opportunity.

Kickoff is at 3pm on Saturday and supporters are more than welcome.
