Paisley R.F.C.
Under 14 Match Report
Paisley 28---Helensburgh 4

Because of the adverse weather conditions and the Christmas break it has been a long ten weeks since the boys last game, so all were raring to go and up for the challenge of Helensburgh coming to town, a team that are always physically strong and well organised.

Right from the start Paisley were on top with the forwards proving too strong and fast for their opponents. With the recent bad weather cancelling our last four games the boys had been putting in good practice sessions and it was one of the training ground moves that opened the scoring, with Lloyd Stevenson powering over from a line out to score the opening try. From this point on Helensburgh were on the back foot and second to every ball, so much so that Thomas Millar broke through from the halfway line scattering defenders in his wake to score.

After more strong forward play, Murray Sutherland went over from close range to further extend Paisley’s advantage and with Fraser Wiseman kicking a conversion it gave the home team a 13-lead.

The second period began with sloppy play from Paisley leading to a rare Helensburgh attack resulting in a try and successful conversion. Normal service was resumed though when the forwards gathered up a loose ball and drove forward, when the ball was played to the backs some slick passing gave Thomas Millar a simple run in for the try. With the visitors now in a state of disarray it seemed that the Paisley boys were scoring at will. Another try from Lloyd Stevenson stunned the visitors who were reduced to playing dirty in an effort to stop the scoring. Another three tries from Thomas Millar bringing his try count for the season so far to forty!! and three conversions scored by Jamie Mckellar rounded off an excellent performance by Paisley. Next weeks visitors to Paisley are Allan Glens with a 1.30pm kick off.

Anyone who is interested in playing rugby at any age group can contact Tom Millar on 07969289056 or come along on Sunday afternoon and speak to any of the coaches.
