Holiday weekend depletes Paisley squad, read the post-match report here

Unusually this report is going to start, not end, with the final score.

Cumbernauld 64 – 12 Paisley.

From a pool of 24 eligible players, not counting the ’97 boys, only 14 turned up for one of the most important matches of the season.  Albeit a holiday weekend the turn-out should have been better.

Bravely, the Paisley boys took the field without a number 8 against a rather large Cumbernauld side and the traffic in the opening exchanges was mostly one way with Cumbernauld running in a series of tries by breaking through Paisley tackling.  Paisley rallied with two tries of their own through straight strong running and good support play.

Callum Orr sustained an injury ten minutes before half time and Paisley played on resolutely with 13 men, although he was fit to return in the second half Colin then sustained an injury to his wrist and again we were up against it until he could return to the field.

The second half saw no more tries from Paisley, despite camping in the Cumbernauld half with the wind in their faces.  The home team ran in another 5 tries, all against the run of play and from within their own half. It has to be said that Paisley were the better rugby playing team, but numbers on the field and the size of the opposition when in possession was too much for the boys from Renfrewshire.

MOTM went to Max Mehigan for a strong performance and an unbelievable thumping tackle on the wing (yes, the wing) to stop a try scoring run.  DOTD went to everyone who couldn’t be bothered turning up.
